So, what’s the problem?  If it’s a woman’s right to choose, it’s a woman’s right to choose… whether to kill a baby because it’s disabled or because it’s an unwanted boy or girl – what’s the difference?

Tell us if you can make sense of the strange “morality” surrounding this latest abortion debae.

Abortions being used to kill an unborn child on the grounds of being the wrong gender – I see no sense in this strange “morality” at all. Rather it is an immoral one. The unborn child becomes a commodity to be gotten rid of for the sake of convenience, if the circumstances do not suit.

In the United Kingdom, the Abortion Act of 1968 was introduced, and, the upper limit for one to be carried out was 24 weeks. It could be carried out if the woman’s mental or physical health was deemed at risk. And it needed 2 doctors to give a yes vote, for the abortion to happen.
This link will probably give the idea of the “legalities” of the abortion act.

I don’t see how this is any different from killing a baby because you want to further you career, it has a disability etc. Babies are murdered for having something as relatively minor as a cleft lip. So this outcry over abortion due to the sex of the baby is odd.

    gloria,

I can see how a woman could claim that having a boy/girl would “affect her physical or mental health…”

You need the strength of an ox to keep energetic little boys in order (until they’re around 30!) and girls can be so moody and self-willed.

Before we know it, women will be demanding the right to have transgender babies!

Petrus, I agree – if there is nothing wrong with abortion per se, then what difference does it make what the reason is – either a woman has the right to choose or she doesn’t.

Apologies, this is off topic. At the Assembly of Clergy yesterday Archbishop Conti encouraged the priests of the Archdiocese of Glasgow to consider not offering Mass every day and to use the time instead to evangelise the young. His justification: the daily parish Mass is attended by people who are already firm in the Faith. The young are much more in need. Therefore: forget daily Mass and use the time for a better purpose.

    zsedcft,

Thanks for that (shocking) information. Unfortunately, the March edition is now back from the printers and about to be enveloped for this is, indeed, headline news. We’ll ask the diocese for comment before reporting it in the May newsletter. It’s almost as if Archbishop Conti wants to see to it that the Church is completely destroyed here before he finally takes his leave. I’d love to know his definition of “evangelise” – if it’s anything like his definition of Lent (go out and see a show!) the young won’t be remotely interested.

It really isn’t too surprising though – the new Mass hasn’t moved the Catholic laity to strong faith and loyalty (check the stats!) so it is none too surprising that the bishops and clergy think nothing of dispensing with it, when it suits them.

It took me a long time to “get it” myself, but, better late than never, I’m more and more convinced that we have to encourage everyone to return to the traditional Mass. Nothing less will overcome the diabolical attacks on the Catholic priesthood and the Mass.

    NOTICE

I’ve had an email from the blogger Rosary15, with the very sad news that his young (33 years old) daughter died suddenly this morning.

Please pray for the repose of her soul. May she rest in peace.

Pray, too, for Rosary15, for this is obviously a huge shock for him and his family.

    Thank you.

The is shocking news from the Assembly of Priests. Archbishop Conti looks more like an enemy of the Faith the longer he remains in post. He is telling his priests and people to forget about the Sacrifice of Calvary. Protestant! The sooner that mad old hippie is out of that Cathedra the better.

Shocking news about Rosary15′s daughter. May she rest in peace.

That is SO true – what Archbishop Conti is suggesting IS “a diabolical attack on the Catholic priesthood and the Mass.” I’m glad Catholic Truth is going to follow it up. The more the poison is drawn out, the more chance the faithful have of becoming more aware of the truth of what is going on in the Church in Scotland, which is one major diabolical attack. I take it that zsedcft is either a priest himself or a good friend of a priest to tell us this? He or she is to be congratulated for revealing this information because, as I say, the more the poison is drawn out the better.

As for the gender-selected abortions – I agree with everything said so far. It is truly horrendous to think that babies are being killed, not just because they are disabled but because they are a boy or a girl.

I know the media reporters keep saying this is illegal but I heard a medical legal expert on Radio 4 yesterday saying it is not illegal, because so much is left to the doctors’ discretion. I think this will be interesting to watch if only to see how long it takes for “society” to accept that it is OK to butcher babies in the womb just because they are the “wrong” gender. God forgive these savages, for that is what they are.

    Editor,

You have reminded me of expectant mothers who may have physical health problems. I knew of 2 women, one had some sort of heart problems, I am not sure precisely the nature of it. The other, was an insulin dependant woman.

Both of them were monitored closely by the obstetrician, and also the consultant surgeon/physician in those particular fields, because things can go wrong for both the expectant mother and the unborn child.

Neither of these women looked for an abortion, and to my knowledge both babies were delivered alive and well. I expect monitoring would have continued with both these mothers and their babies. I have no experience of expectant mothers with mental health issues though.

Like you though I can see how a woman could claim that having a boy/girl would “affect her physical or mental health”.

I sometimes wonder how I would have managed with children, having never married I guess I will never know. I do remember however, doing my stint of babysitting, and, sometimes it was a pleasure to return the children to their parents. Yet, children can grab your heart so to speak.

But, how many seek abortions because the gender is not the one wanted.
I know in some famiies where there are perhaps 2 or 3 girls and the parents want a boy, or vice versa. But is that a reason to abort?

As you say editor – “If there is nothing wrong with abortion per se, then what difference does it make what the reason is – either the woman a right to choose or she doesn’t”.

I completely agree that all this outcry about gender-selection abortion is ridiculous. But maybe it will make some people think again because how can they continue to justify killing any babies, if killing some babies is immoral?

As for Archbishop Conti – words really do fail. To encourage priests not to say Mass is incredible.

I’ve talked to people about the Archbishop Conti thing and I’ve found out that it is not unusual for priests not to say Mass on their day off, so it may not be that much of a shock to the priests in Glasgow. I don’t know if Archbishop Conti has ever encouraged them to have their day off without Mass but I wonder how common that is these days.

About the abortions, doctors have been suspended

Seems like the agenda to stop daily Mass is worldwide- it is certainly diabolical. Communion Services (while priests are on holiday/retreat/busy) and now a bishop saying outright the time allotted to daily Mass could be better used! Shameful and utterly disgraceful.

Returning to the topic, I have a friend who was offered abortion of all male foetuses, because of a family history of an illness which tends to manifest in male children.

My friend has no religion. She simply thinks that killing unborn babies is wrong. She was quite horrified at the medical attitude, and refused point-blank. She subsequently gave birth to a perfectly healthy son.

Many people are not identified with any religion, but instinctively recoil at the idea of abortion. If only they would stand up and be counted.

  13. editor’s avatar

Yes, Crusader, it seems lamentably true that there is a definite agenda to ease out the Mass – even the newer and fewer Mass!

When I worked in the Diocese of Middlesbrough (north east of England) the then Bishop John Crowley wasted no time after his arrival in the diocese, to tell his priests to take a full day off, including Mass. Little wonder that the diocese crumbled under his (lack of) care and he eventually gave up his office, pleading (according to which report you choose to believe) loss of Faith or exhaustion. I know which one I believe.

pew catholic, that is a salutary tale – it’s not the first time that doctors have made such false predictions. I heard of one myself some years ago, when the mother-to-be was told her baby would be disabled, but she refused the abortion and instead had us all praying – a perfectly healthy baby was born and she told the consultant right off that she had a good mind to sue the socks off him for causing her needless worry. She had said that if the baby did come disabled, he/she would be loved and looked after, so we can only hope that these doctors rethink their position when proved so dramatically wrong.

Thanks for all the links posted – I’ve not had a chance to study them all, but will check them out asap.

In todays telegraph abortions carried out due to the wrong gender seems to be big news. Even to the extent 3 or 4 people sent in their letters to comment on this matter, says something.

  15. Margaret Mary’s avatar

Why am I not surprised to read that sex-selection abortions are widespread? Nobody who thinks abortion is acceptable is going to worry about the reason, one reason being as good as another and the doctors have become desensitised anyway. It’s not really surprising at all.

  16. Petrus’s avatar

    MM,

Well said. These people don’t see the double standards. If a woman has a right to choose – does it really matter the reason?

  17. Monica’s avatar

What is very troubling, however, is that these sex-selected abortions (i.e. murders) are widespread yet nobody has thought to report them and take legal action against the guilty parties. What does this all say about the medical profession? How are we supposed to respect men and women who think nothing of aborting a baby boy or girl for no other reason than its a boy or girl? It’s dreadful in the extreme. I hope the police act now, I really do.

  18. Petrus’s avatar

I just don’t think the reason matters. If a woman has a right to choose, who cares what the reason is? Is murdering a child in the woman because it will “interfere with my career” any better than murdering it because ” I want a boy”? Murder is murder.

  19. Majella’s avatar

    Petrus
I couldn’t agree more. Murdering a child in the womb is murder and the reason is irrelevant. If we allow this horrendous crime in our society then we cannot be surprised that people will feel that they have a right to do away with children on the basis of gender.

  20. Margaret Mary’s avatar

Also doing away with people at the other end of life, if they are a nuisance. I read somewhere on one of the links posted above that patients wit dementia are likely to be considered for euthanasia. It’s really a downward spiral.

  21. Petrus’s avatar

    Good point, MM.

Well, the pro-abortion lobby is obviously worried about the Telegraph information and if you scroll down you’ll read their report on the prolife 40 days for life event.

It looks to me that abortion whatever the reason is paving the way for euthanasia. Many, though not all elderly people can develop dementia, and require love and care in their latter years. I have also known of men and women in their forties and fifties developing dementia.

    Who next, those with disabilities?
Children or adults with (mental handicaps), what we now call learning disabilities. Down’s syndrome? Autism? Or something else that falls into this category.

What of those with physical disabilities?
Perhaps someone paralysed from the neck down due an accident? I am sure most people could come up with something in this category.

I was told a story of a man who had just this kind of accident and was in hospital, feeling depressed. Something happened to make him think. He had a beautiful singing voice, and gradually was wheeled around the hospital on his bed, he sang for other patients and visitors and cheered people up.

Who next? Someone who is musically inclined? Maybe good at mathematics.

It looks like we are taking the slippery route of eugenics in todays world.
We need the Consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, to be carried out, and the sooner the better.
